Colonies in the Pacific and Asia
I've been hearing scant clues on what colonies the German empire had in Asia and the Pacific. Africa is mentioned a lot, but not the other side of the world. Tsingtao, a coastal region of China, what about the Pacific islands? Bismarck sea? I've heard that the Germans had the Solomons, Gilberts, Mariannas before the Japanese acquired them.

Don't forget NE New Guinea. It was a German colony before WW1, when it was annexed by Australia and administered by them until independence in 1975 under the name Papua New Guinea.

Tanzania (present-day)
Rwanda (present-day)
Burundi (present-day)
German South West Africa

Actually, New Guinea was divided by a north-south line which divided the big island into two halves. The western half was taken by Holland@Netherlands. The eastern half belonged to Imperial Germany.
After WW I, the German half was divided into a northern portion and a southern portion.
The north was administered by Britain. The southern portion was administred by Australia.
Later on both of them were rejoined into Papua-New Guinea - PNG.
The western half became Irian Jaya under Indonesia.

A correction: most of today's Tanzania rather - without Zanzibar and Pemba (both islands were British).

What about Palau Islands? I think Solomon Islands were British colonies. The Admiralty Islands were German Colonies.CoffeeCake wrote:Don't forget NE New Guinea. Didn't French ceded most part of Equatorial Africa Colony (including today's Chad, Central Africa and Gabon) to Germany in 1911 to exchange French priority in Morocco?CoffeeCake wrote:Don't forget NE New Guinea.
