Post by Chris Dale » 03 Aug 2005 15:20

Hello all,
Does anyone have any information or especially photos of Lt. Gustav von Blumenthal of the German East African Schutztruppe, who joined Major Johannes column in April 1906 during the Maji-Maji Uprising?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Chris

Chris,

I do not have anything specific on the Maji-Maji Uprising but here are a couple of snippets from his service career:

Entered Westfälisches Jäger-Bataillon Nr. 7 in 1897 where he served until November 1905.

Portepee Fähnrich: 27.1.1898
Sekondelieutenant/Leutnant: 8.10.98 N2n
Oberleutnant: 4.8.09 F7f

Left the Prussian Army with effect 5th November 1905 and entered the Schutztruppe for German East Africa on the 6th of November 1905.

Awarded the Prussian Crown Order 4th Class with Swords and the House Order of Schaumburg-Lippe Cross of Honour 4th Class with Swords in 1907.

Promoted to Hauptmann in 1913/14 and died shortly afterwards.

Regards
Glenn

Hi Glenn,
You really are brilliant, thanks very much for the info.
I am in fact asking on behalf of a relative of the officer in question. I'm sure he'll be very pleased to recieve the information.
Cheers
Chris
