Ok, one or two hints:
The picture shows a special kind of a very sucessfull mass media of the 19th century.
This kind almost died out, but there is one modern version in the city of Leipzig etc.

Best regards

But you better look out for the gas... ;-)

Hello,
and here helped me Klaus F. too. Probably it can be that (the English version after translator )

Mischa

Die Frage: Ein sehr erfolgreiches Massenmedium (Mass media) des 19. Jahrhunderts
(19. Jahrhundert = ab 1801). Hier war als Massenmedium die Zeitung bekannt. Radio

A very successful mass media (mass media) of the 19 Century
(19th century = 1801). Here was a mass medium, the newspaper announced. Radio
TV and from there did not exist at this time. Slowly dying from this medium,
it is displaced by the Internet (Internet newspapers). A modern version is in the
to find city Leipzig. That reminds me of the Leipzig Book Fair, a modern version
the mass medium of the newspaper is, however, because there were books before
the newspapers. But drive material (gas)?? - I'm not sure!

WHOAA, grassi!!!!!!!

this was a really, really tough nut to crack!

It is a Panorama Display in a Rotunda 8-)
Panoramas as a mass-media phenomenon had their heyday in the middle of the 19th century: no other art form or medium was as popular and had such a radical effect on the way the public viewed the world. Film and television did not yet exist, and photography was in its infancy.
and the "gas hint" meant Yadegar Assisi’s 2003 Everest panorama in Leipzig inside an unused gas storage tank

Mischa, well, the Buchmesse is another reason to go the great city of Leipzig.

But... yes, it is a panorama! Well done, danebrog, well done!
The picture in the original question shows the Berliner Kolonialpanorama in 1886.
I will add more pictures on the weekend.
Some of us have visited the Deutsche Museum in Munich.
In the Marine exhebition you can see same sceneries which use panorame techniques.

Over to you, danebrog!
