Apparently, you seem to produce just that reaction to your question which you tried to avoid. I gave up.

I've not given up. I've been back to this question a few times, done a few searches, looked in a few books, not found anything... then I'll come back to it a week later and repeat. Still I have no idea what the answer is, but I haven't given up!

Cheers
Chris

Sounds like the film "His Majesty O'Keefe" which was based on the tale of American sailor David O'Keefe who was shipwrecked on Jap (Yap) and built his "empire" there.

Not sure there was a Dutch claim there, so I'm probably barking up the wrong tree...

You found a clue to solving the question..!

Not Yap…
Yet David O’Keefe’s life story may guide you to the disputed islands.
If not to the copra, then to one or two of his numerous wives...

"He ultimately accepted a Yapese wife as well, despite already having a wife and daughter in Savannah"... is what I found in Wikipedia... I think I'm getting further from the answer....

http://www.pacificworlds.com/yap/visitors/okeefe.cfm says "O'Keefe set himself up on Tarang island, in the channel that lies between four different districts of Yap". It also mentions another wife on Nauru.... I still think I'm further than ever from the answer...

Cheers

Checking O'Keefe, his wives and possessions it could be Terang Island but I doubt it.
Mapia island is my choice... :?

For details about the dispute, try to find the study by F. Huizinga (1996): The Mapia Islands - Dutch concern with a late 19th century international controversy. DSALCUL/ISIR, Leiden; Jakarta, 64 pp.

In case you understand Dutch, see:

The story of David O’Keefe’s life is outlined at:

Your turn…

Well Chris, if not for your "O'Keefe and wives" I would still have been lost
in Henks mysterious island...

Not quite sure about this one, but as the Kaiser did visit I guess
it should be considered an official part of the Deutsches Kaiserreich.
