Morocco 1900-1910

Post by Lupo Solitario » 10 Oct 2005 16:57

I'd like to know something about the international quarrel about Morocco between 1900 and 1910...who were involved and what happened

Thanks for any data

Lupo

PS Sincerly I'm trying to understand what is real and what invented in "The wind and the lion" movie apparently setting in 1904...

A brief summary here. The first crisis in 1905 demonstrates that Germany took advantage of Russian weakness at the time in challenging France:

I think its best to say that in 1904 no American female was kidnapped(it was a man),no Marines landed nor fired a shot.

The Kaiser's ride through Tangiers in March 1905 makes a more interesting story!

The horses were supplied by the Sultan of Tangiers and were never part of the planned itinerary as supposed by the Germans.

Wilhelm had great difficulty in handling his Arab pony(due to his withered arm and riding a horse not trained for his handicap).Combine this with rifle volleys being fired in the air,in the Arab tradition of celebration, and Wilhelm might be right in describing his ride as the most frightful experience of his life.

Wilhelm and his entourage sailed on the steamer Hamburg, later interned by the US in WW1:
