I've uploaded new pages to the website http://www.germancolonialuniforms.co.uk covering brief histories and unit descriptions for The German Colonies, German East Africa, German South West Africa, German West Africa (Cameroon and Togo), The German Pacific Colonies, The Imperial German Navy and The German Marine Infantry - Seebatallione. Whereas previously the pages on historical background only contained information relating to the First World War, these updates include information on the German Colonies from their founding in the 1880's up to their demise in 1918, in line with the recent uniforms page updates on this website. I am hoping in future to add more "brief history" sections to cover other German overseas actions throughout the whole of the imperial period. As the focus of the website is mainly to study the uniforms of these forces rather than go into great detail about their battles or organisation these pages will remain only a brief synopsis with relevant links where possible to external websites containing more in depth information. As usual thank you very much to all the forum members who have helped with information for these pages and please me know if you spot any mistakes....
There's also a few more minor updates on the website including reviews of two excellent books, the third volume of the series "Imperial German Uniforms and Equipment 1907-18" by John Somers, and General von Lettow-Vorbeck's "Reminiscences of East Africa. Both are highly recommended.
Cheers

I've added more updates at http://www.germancolonialuniforms.co.uk . The updates include more pages and updated versions of old pages on the German and Austrian forces assisting the Ottoman Empire in the First World War and also on the German forces in Togo. As usual any help spotting errors on these pages or adding more useful information is always welcome.

I've added more updates at http://www.germancolonialuniforms.co.uk . The updates include photographs of a Südwester made from hessian cloth and edged in red for the Schutztruppe of Cameroon, and some new photographs of a 10.5cm Königsberg Gun. These photographs were in the collection of William Thomas Clegg AB RN who served on the HMS Vengeance in East Africa during the First World War.

I've added loads of updates since I last posted in this thread. Among them are more photos of DSWA artillery, bayonets, headdress cockades and a large private collection of colonial uniforms. There are also new pages on the uniforms of naval auxiliaries in the colonies and Germans in the Shanghai Volunteer Corps as well as lots of small updates to existing pages. See www.germancolonialuniforms.co.uk
