From what I can gather:

Boxer Rebellion

Count Alfred Ludwig von Waldersee 1901
Kapitan zur See Guido von Usedom 1902
Oberleutnant Graf Soden 1900
Kapitan Wilhelm von Lans 1901
SMS Iltis 1903

Südwestafrika

General der Infantrie Lothar von Trotha 1905
Hauptmann Victor Franke 1904

Ostafrika

Oberst Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck 1916,Oakleaves 1917

Is this all recepients?

A von Förster was also awarded the PLM in 1901?

If you accept a British soldier receiving the Pour Le Merite for service on the continent

Hugh Halkett

would be the one.

Awarded the PLM September 19, 1848

In the course of the campaign in East-Africa 1914-1918 Lettow-Vorbeck submitted applications
for the PLM for the following of his officers (ranks as of 1918):

Generalmajor z.D. Kurt Wahle
Hauptmann d.R. Dr. Franz Kempner
Hauptmann Franz Köhl
Hauptmann Eberhard von Liebermann
Hauptmann Erich Müller
Hauptmann Max Wintgens

The applications did not get through, so none of them was awarded the PLM.
By letter to the War Ministry as of January 22, 1920 Lettow confirmed
the applications after his return to Germany.

Hi Chris

I have an interest in German flyers during the War. And I believe that this Hptm Rrich Müller might
have been a flyer.

So if I can find possible regiment I can rather certain find more basic information on him.

Hi Gunnar,

I don't think Erich Müller was a flyer in the 1914-18 war, or do you mean a flyer in the 1939-45 war?

Erich Müller would have served in the Schutztruppe in German East Africa during the First World War (hence his nomination for a PLM by the East African commander von Lettow-Vorbeck. As far as I know the only German pilots who flew in East Africa during the First World War were Bruno Büchner and Erich Henneberger.

Do we have a case of mistaken identity? Erich and Müller are both common names.

Cheers
Chris
