schutztruppen re-enactment
Anyone ever considered putting together a schutztruppen uniform/ group for re-enactment?

I don't see any problem if anyone decided to go south west africa as it was man by german settlers and german soldiers but doing east africa might be a problem as the rank and file was black, unless they did it as a white officer and NCO.
Equipment no problem as it was the same as the soldiers in germany..

I meant the specific African related equipment, although depending on who you were doing I'm sure you could improvise.Hun1918 wrote: Equipment no problem as it was the same as the soldiers in germany..
Things like the official tropical helmet, although no problem if your doing SWA as I dont think they were used there much at all. I was also thinking of the Khaki uniform.
I think it'd be cool to do it though, it'd help to raise awareness for a largely forgotten conflict. As well as that I'd just love to have that uniform

I doubt if you'd find the type of tropical helmet used by the Seebatallione, Navy and East Asian units with the folding back on ebay. But it'd be easy to find one to fit into the Schutztruppe. They wore such a variety of issue and private purchase items, also some Schutztruppe issue helmets were bought from different foreign sources. Here's a photo of some Camroon Schutztruppe with very different helmets (from http://www.imperialgermanphotographs.de).

I think its a fascinating idea. Kind of strange about how I talked about the same subject with some guys in a WWII reenacting group I just joined last month.
I would think getting the Imperial tropenhelm would be a problem. A big problem is the need for someone to fight. Otherwise all you can do is walk around dressed as a schutztruppe!
A great place to do it would be central Florida - lots of fairly flat open grassland and "prarie".

Yes Hun, the Kammerbulle website would probably be the best to re-create Schutztruppe uniforms. This website http://www.glemb.com/ also emails me every now and then claiming to make excellent reproduction insignia to order.
