Movies Set in German Colonies

Post by soldat_m56 » 20 Feb 2006 02:43

Are there any good movies out there set in the German colonies? I believe there is some old German movie made during the 1930s(?) about Karl Peters in DOA, although I'm not sure. It's seems most of the movies I have heard about or seen feature the Germans as the villains, such as The Africa Queen and a couple of the abundant Young Indiana Jones movie series. Surely someone has made a movie about Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck!

Where can I find any of the German movies? I doubt anywhere over here sells them, since all they like to import here are Japanese and French films!

One movie here:

Die Reiter von Deutsch-Ostafrika
1934, ca. 98 min., b&w - Though friends, a German and a Briton in Africa end up on opposite sides during World War 1. This film was banned by the Nazi Government in 1939 because of its favorable treatment of the English. Directed by Herbert Selpin; featuring Ilse Stobrawa, Sepp Rist, and Peter Voss.
