It was dropped by SM-84's from altitude , 2 each, but i am not sure if it was the torpedo version of SM 84.
No Italian torpedo bomber units used the Motobomba FFF. They were dropped by SIAI-Marchetti SM.82 Marsupiale and by SIAI-Marchetti SM.84 bombers, which belonged to bomber groups of the 32° Stormo.

Btw there is a video of aSM 84 dropping 2 external stores which i believe could be Motobomba, it was one of those youtube videos about Regia Aeronautica.

I have no data about the torpedoes used by MAS boats, I only know that the annual amounts of torpedoes launched by all the units of the Regia Marina were:
- 1940: 546
- 1941: 1,185
- 1942: 1,600
- 1943: 350 (until 1st September).

If it’s not to much bother, what’s the source for that ?

I came across this in Raspin:

Are those the Three Torpedo manufactures that are known for the Italian air dropped torpedo's ?

I am aware of shortage of 533m torpedoes for subs, Some submarines - i don't know to what extent -initially had a system to fire instead 450mm from some 533mm torpedoes tubes. These were supposed to be employed against merchants while the 533mm were to be against warships.

Rather than a shortage, it was a policy of the Regia Marina to use as few torpedoes as possible in order to save on the expenses. The same reasoning was behind the use of 450 mm torpedoes in place of 533 mm ones.

Thanks. That is probably more related to makeshift nature of some landing grounds an the lack of support than the torpedo production.

I have got the number of orders 450x5.46 by Silurifico at Naples - note that orders does not mean received/accepted by service

year: order; received/accepted
1940: 0, received by Navy(RM) 103 i suppose this is part of orders before war(60 1936/37) 120(1938), 24 1939 - the 120 order did not respected listed performance so contractual penalty was activated.
1941: 286 for RM, 880 for RA- : RM accepted/received 157 don't know about RA order
1942: 284 for RM accepted/received 110
1943: 384 for RM
So, How many were on Hand at wars start?

Not the information i have, i have not read missions later say 1942-43 with subcaliber tubes. There were enough 533 torpedoes for all SS tubes but the number was not enough to resupply them all. It was less then 1:2.

And these are different 450 mm torpedoes, they’re not the ones the MAS boats are using which are in turn the ones that the aircraft are dropping correct?

So we are basically looking at four different models,

The two essentially interchangeable MAS/Air torpedos

And the 533 and 450 mm submarine and surface ship torpedoes ? The latter of which could be used in the 533 mm tubes ?
