Does anyone has any info on this Italian colonel?
He was in command of KG Carallo (about 1.000 men from X. Mas), when he was KIA on 19th Dec. 1944 on Banjška planota (he fell in partisan ambush from 3. Btl. 2. Brig. ASS (VDV - Vojska državne varnosti/Army of State Security).
TIA!
Regards,
Klemen

Lt Colonel Luigi Carallo was KIA in Locavizza (GO) on 22.12.1944. The circumstances of his death are controversial. There is a theory that says that the germans commissioned his death by the hands of chetniks, because he wasstrongly against Rainer's plans of giving those provinces to slovenians. This may be confirmed by the fact that the other occupants of the car, except his attendant, survived. Partisans found on his body the Adler Aktion plans so that they could take countermeasures. Barbarigo Bn (Decima Mas) cleaned the area just few days before and patrolled the area,so it was quite a strange hambush, with too many survivors. If you need some pics of him I may be able to find some in my library.
