I FIND IT QUITE COMMENDABLE THAT YOU WISH TO MAKE A DEDICATION PAGE TO ITALIAN FIGHTING MEN OF WORLD WAR II. ITS A SUBJECT NEAR AND DEAR TO MY HEART AND ONE IVE BEEN RESEARCHING FOR NEARLY 30 YEARS. BUT SIMPLY LISTING INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVMENTS CAN LEAD DOWN A RATHER DANGEROUS PATH. THERE HAS TO EXIST AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE FRAME WORK OF THE WAR ITALYS INDUSTRIAL, ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES HAVE TO EXIST AS THE BACKGROUND FOR THIS THIS KIND OF STUDY. BE CAREFUL "CHERRY PICKING" INDIVIDUAL EVENTS AND THEN USING THEM AS A BASIS FOR A LARGER SWEEPING CLAIM. ITS NOT NESSECARY TO 'PROVE' THE WORTH OF THE ITALIAN TROOPS IN THE WAR. WHAT MIGHT BE A BETTER ANGLE IS TO EXAMINE HOW THEY SUCCEEDED IN SPITE OF ALL THE HANDICAPS THEY LABORED UNDER.
USING THE TIME TABLE OR LIST OF INDIVIDUAL ACTIONS ACTUALLY IN SOME WAYS MAY TAKE AWAY FROM VIEWING THE ITALIAN ARMYS PERFORMANCE IN A BALANCED LIGHT. IF YOUR FRIEND IS PREPARING A SCHOLARLY WORK OR TRIBUTE HE DOESNT WANT IT TO APPEAR LIKE A PROPAGANDA PIECE. I WOULD ADVISE HIM TO TAKE THE TIME TO LOOK CAREFULLY AND CONSIDER BOTH SIDES OF VARIUOS ACTIONS AND HOW THEY FIT INTO THE OVERALL SCHEME OF BATTLES AND CAMPAIGNS.

PLEASE DONT SHOUT
The enemy had superiority in numbers, his tanks were more heavily armoured, they had larger calibre guns with nearly twice the effective range of ours, and their telescopes were superior. 5 RTR 19/11/41

Petrikovka Operation seemed like remarkable Italian achievement as she alone destroyed Soviet 261 and 273rd Rifle divisions.

Hi Kelvin,
The "Petrikovka Oeration" seems typical of a good number of other Axis-allied operations in 1941-42. For example, the Hungarians at Uman, or Slovaks at Kiev, or Romanians at Kharkov. In all cases German mobile forces created the favourable circumstances under which their allies could mop up isolated Red Army units and formations.
Cheers,
Sid.
