Salerno / Operations Avalanche books

#1

Post by Skarpskytten » 14 Feb 2018, 12:26

Hullo!

I need to read up a bit on the Battle of Salerno in 1943 and am looking for ...

... a good English language study, preferably one that covers the fight from both an allied an axis perspective.

... a good English or German study with a detailed look at the German perspective.

... good English or German works written by German participants.

Any help appreciated!

Dear forum!

I am still looking for:

... a good English or German study with a detailed look at the German perspective on Salerno (or the whole Italian campaign).

... good English or German works written by German participants. (I have located the autobiographis by Kesselring and Balck).

Also, are there any good divisional histories from the 16. Panzer, 26. Panzer, 15. Panzer-Grenadier and 29. Panzer-Grenadier divisions?

I have some documents, I suggest to you to buy Angust Konstam and Hugh Pond by German units are wrong. For photos I suggest Angelo Pesce's book
https://www.ebay.it/itm/SALERNO-1943-Op ... 0600424857
in Italian but with good history (If you want I will send you the translation when I have freetime) and hundreds of photos

1) About German perspective there are some books of Fallschirmjager officers or simple soldiers but abut Monte Cassino, I'm searching books on German soldiers who fought in Salerno but without success (there is only the witness of Meierkord of I/64 PzGren at Magazzeno/Pontecagnano attack on Hampshire Lane)
2) German partecipants, well, I've a document of Vietinghoff if you are interested after the battle and some informations by officer (you can see the adjutant of PZ Rgt 2, von Luck, at Salerno http://lestweforgetww2.com/Lt.Christian ... _16pz.html ) http://lestweforgetww2.com/
There are only British point of view of battle and American too

3) I can explain you all these in few words, where they fought and for example when they arrive in the landing area etc.

Is this published somewhere?

Yes, very much so.

Yes, there seems to be many books that cover the allied side of the fighting, but the german perspective seems to be rather neglected.
