Badoglio Government 3rd September 1943 to JUne 1944

Post by Ian Sayer » 16 Feb 2018 17:41

Pietro Badoglio and King Vittorio Emanuele formed a new government on the 3rd September 1943 which continued until June 1944.
I cannot seem to find a list of the Ministers in this government and I wonder if anybody might have such a list or can point me in the right direction to find one.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Ian

The Badoglio government was formed on 26 July 1943, not 3 September. It lasted until 17 April 1944 and was then replaced by a new Badoglio government (Badoglio II) from 24 April to 8 June 1944.

List of the Ministers (in Italian) from the site of the Italian Government:

Hm interesting so Taddeo Orlando was in both governaments of Badoglio. In Slovenia he was known specialy by his negotiations with Slovenian anticommunists. He was one of key players in establishing so called White guard or MVAC in summer 1942. Mostly they were guarding the villages and smaller towns very often together side by side with Italian army. They were in fact considered part of this army. Some units of MVAC like Legion of dead were also cooperating directly in Italian offensives. Italian plan was to slowly make mixed troops of Italians and Slovenes which would fight like some kind of special forces against partisans. On that way they thought they would control those units also politicaly and erase other influences like British.

No problem. :) Well the plan for making mixed units from Italians and MVAC militiamen was made in 1943 and advanced by general Gastone Gambara. Some small units were also created but then Italy was already losing the war so the plan was not realized.

About Gambara it is also interesting that later in spring and summer 1943 he made a deal with slovenian chetnics under the command of major Karel Novak and even allowed them to spread spy networks against Germans which he already considered as future enemies. He knew that the information gathered will also go to the British.
Yet after 8. September 1943 Gambara joined the forces of the so called Salo republic which was a German puppet state. After war he lived in Spain under dictator Franco for some time but was later accepted back in to the Italian army.
