Fighting between Serbian chetnics and Italian CLN in Gorizia 1945

Post by SloveneLiberal » 26 Jul 2018 17:40

I read in the book ''Domobranstvo na Primorskem'' which was written by dr. Boris Mlakar that at the end of WW2 in some areas of Primorska Slovene Littoral Home Guard together with Serbian chetnics took over control after Germans moved out for a very short period of time of course. This happened for example in Ajdovscina ( 29.4. 1945 ). Also in Gorizia Serbian chetnics took over the town after the retreat of Germans. It is mentioned in the book that it seems they came in fight with Italian resistance movement lead by local CLN, which also tried to get control over the town. They were in control Chetnics had to retreat from Gorizia soon because Yugoslav army was attacking them. Do somebody have maybe more informations about the fighting between Italian resistance and chetnics in these last days of WW2?

Slovene Partisans and supporters of Liberation front of Slovene nation ( or OF - Osvobodilna Fronta ) were fought both by Germans, italian fascists and by Littoral Home Guard, which in the area of so called Adriatisches Küstenland was also under Globočnik's SS and police command. Collaborators were motivated primarily by anti communism. Their leader Kokalj was secretly calculating that the British will take over Slovenia and specialy Primorska after the collapse of Germany. After the Red army and partisans under command of Tito took over Serbia in the autumn of 1944 quite some Serbian chetnic forces came in Primorska too.

I got some information that the biggest clashes were around the town center of Gorizia and in the industrial part of the town. Italian sources say that 54 people died in the fighting.
