ID Italian Generals

Post by AlifRafikKhan » 19 Nov 2018 09:58

Hi, does anyone know who is the Italian general behind Mussolini? The picture was taken in August-September 1941, when Hitler and Mussolini visited the Axis troops at the Eastern Front.

General Walther von Brauchitsch followed by his General Staff and Italian military figures laid a wreath at the monument of the unknown Italian soldier on his visit to Rome, 2 May 1939.
Some unknown Italian generals behind von Brauchitsch.

Hi,

I believe the General behind von Brauchitsch is Efisio Marras. It's hard to be sure because the pic is fairly indistinct, but I think the other 2 Italian officers are not Generals.

Kind regards,

VJK

In Rome the 2 officiers are not generals but the one in centere an officier of horse artillery and the one on the left an officier or Granadiers.
In Tobruk the first officier vas a Navy senior officier, then an Admiral or maybe an Air force general, , the 3 and 4 Army generals.
Mussolini have the peculiar rank insigna of Primo Maresciallo dell' Impero ( a rank only for him and the King).

If one is an Admiral, he may have been Admiral Giuseppe Lombardi, who at the time was Superior Naval Commander in Libya with headquarters in Tobruk. A photo of him is here: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... mbardi.jpg

In first photo the rank is Generale di Corpo d'Armata.A very higth rank, not so many in Africa.
In second photo I see 3 italian generals!
The first on left is probably an Air Force general, as he had a fly suit of Regia Aeronautica and from the shape of his cap.
