Dear Forum,
In the 70´s I met an Italian tailor living in Buenos Aires who had been a member of the Mussolini Battalion. He told me a very funny story that happened during a very important parade in Rome ( I do not remember if it was during or before the war ). The King would be reviewing the parade escorted by Mussolini. One of the cooks ( infiltrated partisan ? ) had mixed a very powerful laxative in the morning breakfast that had been distributed to the troops. During the extended waiting time the laxative started having its effect. The ranks commenced to be deserted as soldiers, one by one at first and by dozens later, ran to the rear to relieve themselves. Those gone were unable to return to the parade as the laxative was extremely powerful. When the reviewing King and Mussolini, passed by, they were stunned by the incredible view of hundreds of defecating soldiers. Only a few were still standing to attention presenting arms. Officers had been unaffected by the drug so that they were impeccably saluting in the front of what was left of their companies.
I am trying to check this story. I am sure that witnesses who are with us today have not forgotten this event, even in spite their old age and, those who have passed away, surely have retold the story to their sons and grandsons.
Cheers all !
