Hi,
Please could someone clarify the meaning of the term "promosso con anzianita ed assegni decorrenti dal 1 gennaio 1942". The Royal Decree (order) was issued on 15-4-1942, and I understand that "anzianita" refers to the seniority, but is the actual date of promotion 15 April or 1 January?

Many thanks in advance,

VJK

15 April 1942

Promoted with seniority and allocations becoming effective January 1, 1942.

The promotion was backdated. It was effective (actually happen on) 15 April 1942 (the pin-on date), but the date for any time in grade, pay, retirement, etc. calculations would be based on a 1 January 1942 promotion date.

I am not happy with the word allocations in this translation but would rather use entitlements. The latter word is the common American military term of any pay, perks, etc. associated with the promotion.

To be clear, the individual was actually promoted on 15 April. He was not considered as acting in the higher grade between 1 Jan and 15 Apr. The backdating was for pay, seniority, etc. calculations (i.e. paperwork) that had no operational effect.

Pista! Jeff

Thank you Jeff, that explains it perfectly and confirms what I had suspected.

Kind regards,

Valdis

You are welcome. I realized that I began answering your question one way and in my editing changed it to answer the question a different way.

In rereading my post, I realized I hadn't changed the first line to reflect the different approach.
...but is the actual date of promotion 15 April or 1 January?
The actual date of promotion was 15 April. (I have edited my original post to reflect this).

Sorry about that. I do know you understood the correct answer.
