Political organization of Italy (Prefects, "Gauleiters")

#1

Hello,
I didn't know much about the political organization of Italy under Fascism. I read Ciano's diaries and found Prefects (Präfekten) and "Gauleiters". Are the position of the prefects (Präfekten) the same like the prefects of Departements in France? And have the "Gauleiters" the same function like in Nazi-Germany? Exist a list of the Prefects and the "Gauleiters"?
Thanks

Some basic information about prefects (prefetti), in Italian (maybe try Google Translate), is here: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prefetto_ ... a_fascista It existed already before the Fascist period, and still exists today; it is, very roughly, a government representative at a provincial level.

"Gauleiter" is evidently the German translation of the original Italian word, so one needs to look up what that word was. I have a feeling it may be the segretario federale (federal secretary of the Fascist Party): https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segretari ... e_Fascista
