RSI army question

#1

Post by ant888 » 22 Aug 2019, 15:24

Good day all,

I was recently reading about the RSI in North Italy during WW2. Since the RSI was north, did any southern Italians go north and join the RSI, or did all of them stay with the Allies in the south?

Thanks.

Shortly after the Italian armistice of 8 Sept. 1943 the situation was somewhat fluid and some units of the former MVSN and of the Army (parachutists of the Nembo division) joined the Germans during their initial retreat to the North. Once the front stabilized its passage became almost impossible, therefore the relatively few Southern Italians wishing to cooperate with the Italian Social Republic were usually employed locally in "stay behind" intelligence and sabotage operations, remaining in their territories after the German withdrawals, instead of moving to the North.
