Among the six foreigners killed that day is an Italian. Does anyone have any information. Other than what I said, I have found nothing. The gunboat Ermanno Carlotta seems to have been at Hankow(Wuhan) and the S. Caboto at Shanghai, but I am surprised that neither "rushed to the sounds of the guns," The French, British, Japanese and Americans all seemed to have reacted to the incident. I welcome any comment and many thanks in advance. I am also posting this enquiry on the UK and French boards.

From a news account: the individual was a Jesuit priest at the French mission. If anyone comes across information relating to Italian reaction I would be interested. It is possible that he was the first of the foreign fatalities that day. Many thanks for your interest.
