What is Mussolini Saying?

Post by JLEES » 11 Sep 2002 20:06

What is Mussolini saying and when do you think this card was produced? It states, "Noi Tireremo Diritto." Could someone give me a good English translation? By the imagery it looks like it could have been printed in 1940. The back of the card is blank.

ciao James
Literally it means "We will go straight" and is one of the most known Mussolini slogans....in italian it implies something as "no deviations, no doubts, no stops, nothing will stop us".....about period, any moment between 1935 and 1940, I suppose, african citations are evident in the card

Going on the light side for a minute , I would like to share a joke .

When I was a child , there were still many of these fascist slogan on the walls , even if the war was finished from a long time ,and for some reason
many of the "NOI TIREREMO DIRITTO " had survived , by now all have disappeared . And some of them were placed in the countryside painted on building just next to a curve in the road , the meaning that if you followed the indication to go straight you would have gone out of the road
I guess it was just a bad positioning of the slogan but it really semmed as somebody wanted to amke a joke of the rethoric .

The slogan is referring to the sanctions that were imposed to Italy for his role of "aggressor" of a country, Kingdom of Ethiopia, that was a member of the Societé des Nations.
The meaning is : we don't care about the sanctions, we'll move on to reach our goal.
