Hello K ; there is no such silly question here.....AFAIK (remembering pictures and drawings I saw) prior to and after the Polish Campaign the Wehrmacht used the Balkenkreutz for identification purposes.....During the campaign of 1939 was used the plain white cross (for better visibility?) sadly it was also an easy point to aim for the enemy gunners so it was dropped after that.
