I think that the von Roon book "World Empire Lost" quoted in "Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance" was just a fictional device used by Wouk to make a pass at presenting "the German side" of the historical events. I do not think there really was a General Armin von Roon.
Correct, read the foreword Lord Gort!

>>I would also like to recommend the Megargee work, although I am not completely finished with mine yet.

It looks to be superior scholarship, IMHO. <<

Thankyou Scott, another (two) books.
Are you sure your not getting commission :-))

I have been reading a book called "World empire lost" By General Von Roon, I have gotten use to the Generals way of blaming of countries for getting themselves invaded by the Nazis, and even his way of blaming Churchill in a round about way for the Holocaust.
Well done, Lord Gort! You fooled all the pundits on the this forum, except James and J von B.

The foreword to Wok's "Winds of War" states:

"'World Empire Lost', the military treatise by Armin von Roon, is of course an invention from start to finish. Still, General von Roon's book is offered as a professional German view of the other side of the hill, reliable within the limits peculiar to that self-justifying military lierature."

Readers of "The Winds of War" will recognise Manstein lurking behind the beak-nosed figure of Armin von Roon. The fictional "World Empire Lost" is Manstein's "Verlorene Siege" ("Lost Victories") thinly veiled.

You're welcome, Annelie. Actually, it is a way for me to feel better about not having sent Marcus a contribution in a while.

Seriously, the link to use to insure that the TR Forum gets a kickback is:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... eichfactbo

Just put the book's ISBN number where the X's are.

The use of the name "Armin von Roon" also was, I suspect, derived from that of Bismarck's minister of war, Albrecht Theodor Graf von Roon.
