I learnt the other day from my grandmother (Much to my amusement) that there were in fact 2 POW camps in North Wales. I don't know about German prisoners, but there were Italian Prisoners there. They were used as labourers to grow food... Heh, the things you find out when you look eh?

@ London Lad
2181 German PoW's escaped in Great Britain. Until end of November 1947, 81 men were not recaptured.

@ Motti
I like to get more informations on that.

@ Desert Fox
330 camp-locations, work-units and hospitals are known. Of that number were 5,4% located in Wales.

There are always numerous stories of Allied pilots who were shot down over German territory, and desperately made it back home alive. But of the total number of German pilots / soldiers captured in Allied POW camps, what percentage of them have the desire to escape? And how many of those made it back alive????

Thanks!

Afilm was made in 1950s about Franz von Werra, starring Hardy Kruger (himself a former trooper in the Hitlerjugend).
