I am attempting to confirm some of the German military units that participated in the defense of Leipzig in April of 1945. General der Polizei Wilhelm Christian von Grolman, in addition to his precinct policemen ( 400 ) and air raid wardens ( 3,000 ), indicated the following:
Hitlerjugend.
Volkssturm – eight battalions.
A replacement battalion of 750 men of the 107th Infantry Regiment. Was this the 2nd battalion of the 880th grenadier regiment of the 347th infantry division ?
A “ Kraftfahr-Ersatz-Abteilung “. Was this number 4 ( commanded by LT. COL. Pehnt ? ) of the 464th replacement & training division ?
I am most interested in additional insight such as accurate unit & field return numbers ( HJ & Volks ) and clarification of the two army units.
Respectively submitted, THANK-YOU !
