Foreigners on German military service in WW2 : numbers and losses

#1

Post by KwK42 » 18 Jan 2022, 12:37

My greetings, users of AHF.
As we know during the WW2 in Wehrmacht and W-SS had served a lot of non-Reich citizens :
- Waffen SS volunteers from all Europe,
- Volksdeutche,
- Ostruppen,
- HiWis.
Are there german documents about how many of them were on service, and casulties sustained ?

Rolf-Dieter Mueller's book An der Seite der Wehrmacht is a good compendium and starting point for research. IIRC it gives losses for the Western/Baltic SS contingents. For Hiwis and Osttruppen it's doubtful the records are sufficiently complete to give a good picture.
