HISTORY OF THE COMPIEGNE MEMORIAL SITE

It took three months of researching and writing to finish this exhaustingly detailed 20 000 word material (40 A4 pages) devoted to the history of both 1918 and 1940 armistices in the Forest of Compiegne. I have visited the site of the Clairière de l'Armistice back in 2019 and this article deepens into the history of the two World Wars, its climaxes, negotiations between France and Germany, the history of the memorial site, and the famous ‘Marshal Foch car’ or ‘Le wagon de l'Armistice. I have used 120 books and booklets, 90 archival photos, and my own from the site, maps, to put together all the information.

Thank you in advance for reading and your feedback would make great sense to me: please leave comments, corrections, questions, suggestions. Let’s keep traveling and reading.
