I have got a couple of questions regarding the German OOb during the Stalingrad relief operation.

1. Did the 15th Lw Division take part in the offensive? If yes, then which corps was it part of?

2. Was Kgr Pannwitz involved in this battle?

3. When did the 16. Mot and the Wiking join the Agr Hoth?

4. When was the Agr Hoth formed and when was it disbanded?

5. Anyone could explain me what KG Adam and KG Heilmann were?

6. How about Luftwaffe Kampfgruppe Stahel?

Thank you a lot in advance,

Abel

1. No

2. Yes. I don't know what role they played in the offensive, however, I know that this ad hoc group helped hold Kotelnikovo and protect the arrival of the 6 Pz.Div. there on 11/27.

3. 16 Mot.Div. was assigned to 4thPz.Armee (A/G Hoth) on 11/22 and began arriving in Proletarskaya on 1/8/43. SS Wiking was assigned on 12/20 and began arriving in Simovniki on 12/27.

4. A/G Hoth was formed in early DEcember 1942 and disbanded the latter part of January 1943 (sorry, don't have exact dates)

5. ?

6. ?

JC thanks for your response.

1. If the 15. Lw wasn't involved, where was it at the time ( being part of Agr Hoth).

2. Thanks, anyone has more info?

3. Given the lineage, did these units give protection for the 57.PK's retreat?

Questions 4-6 are still unanswered, and more info is needed for the first three too so please everyone!!!

Thanks,

Abel

Hi Abel,

1. 15 LFD was formed in November 1942 in Salsk and in mid January moved to protect the bridgehead over the Manych at Proletarskaya. On January 25 they began to withdraw to Rostov.

3. Yes, exactly.

4. A/G Hoth was simply the German 4th Pz. Armee and the Rumanian 4th Army, and only existed during the chaotic days after Stalingrads isolation until all Axis units had withdrawn accross the Don river at Rostov in late January 1943.

Not a lot to add other than KG Stahel & Sprang we ad-hoc formations along the Chir River fronting the Romanian 3rd Army and facing the Russian 5th Tank Army, and that KG Stahel HQ was in the town of Chernyshkovskii on 23/12/42
