Infantry per Panzer

#1

Post by K.Kocjancic » 16 Jul 2003, 12:53

Are there any numbers, how many Pz.Gren. were needed for "defence" (against enemy infantry) of one (1) panzer (let's say Panther) during urban fighting?

I think it is impossible to establish a standard. First of all it depends on the number of enemies, but also on the definition of "urban" (narrow streets with high buildings or wide avenues), etc., etc.

OK, let it be narror city streets, which are most "troubleful" for Panzer units.

Does anyone have any good photos of Panzers & Infanterie during urban fighting?

This Tiger II in Budapest belongs to the Feldherrenhalle Division. It isn't in action, but you can see the number of troops around it.

These are PzGrenadiers riding in an SpW. I would imagine that in city fighting, the men from this halftrack alone would be enough to protect a MKIV or StuG, and maybe a MKV.

Didn't Panzers try to avoid fighting in narrow streets?
