The United States Government claims to have taken out all of the German saboteurs in the US. I find that hard to believe. Does anyone have any info regarding the subject?

I know a team of German agents were dropped off by submarine on the East Coast in about 1943 but one of them called the FBI and the entire team was picked up. All except the one or two who cooperated were executed as spies.

It was not revealed until well after the war that the group had been given up by one of its members. The FBI came off looking great with a quick snag and the Germans were so startled by the quick arrests they didn't try any more such missions.

Cheers,

Nigel :)

In circa late March/early April 2002, there was an excellent article about the German saboteurs and their trial/execution in the Sunday Magazine of the Washington Post. You may wish to search that newspaper's on line archives for the article.

And of course there was this group of German agents who had been thoroughly trained, knew all the baseball teams names , scores, and spoke fluent American (which is to say different than the Kings English). They wore U.S. made clothing, smoked Lucky strike, and yet . . .
This one F.B.I. agents enters a New York restaurant and for the fun of it yells : "ACHTUNG" . Immediately three men jumped up and stood in attention. :D :)   HN.
