Some time in the 30's the German military took an oath of personal loyalty to
Hitler. What was the date of this oath? Was this Hitler's idea or did it come from
Jodl, Keitel or someone else? Any info. on this topic would be appreciated.
Thanks

The Leader and
Chancellor of the Reich

I believe in you
and in your

and will serve you
until death,
so help me God.

Yo te juro a tí
Adolf Hitler,
Líder y

Yo creo en tí
y en los

y te serviré hasta la Muerte
Para lo que Dios me ayude.

That was Himmler's idea.

-Each year, men bound for military-SS units took their oath in Hitler's presence at 10pm, on November 9, the anniversary of the 1923 Munich putsch.

-The motto, "My honor is loyalty" was suggested by Hitler that echoed the knightly vows of Teutonic legend.

Regards, Jeff

Jeff & Haag:
Thanks for the info. However, I wasn't looking for the oath taken by only SS or Waffen SS
officers. What I'm looking for is the date and content of the first mass taking of the oath by those who were then in all the German Armed Forces. Got any leads?

I found a sentence from my book..

"Hitler and Nazi Germany" by Spielvogel. p.115

"A day after Hindenburg's death, soldiers and their leaders took an oath of allegiance to Hitler."

The first mass taking of the oath was on August 3, 1934. (Hindenburg's death - Aug. 2)

Hope it helps...Jeff

The oath (aka Fahnenheid) was:
"Ich schwöre bei Gott diesen heiligen Eid, daß ich dem Führer des Deutschen Reiches und Volkes Adolf Hitler, dem Oberbefehlshaber der Wehrmacht, unbedingten Gehorsam leisten und als tapferer Soldat bereit sein will, jederzeit für diesen Eid mein Leben einzusetzen."
