NS Frauenschaft

Post by meadaline » 07 Jul 2006 10:03

Hi I'm brand new to this, so hope you can help me.
I want to re-enact as a member of NS Frauenschaft. I have seen some photos and noticed that the ladies appear to be wearing a badge on their blouses over the top button near their throat. I cannot find any photos that are close enough for me to see what the badge is. Any one any ideas? Thanks

Fraulein
Thanks for that.
I had already seen that link and found it very helpful in identifying the different badges that were worn. The only badge that i think is about the correct size is the 'Deutscher Frauenhilfsdienst' badge, I think the NSDAP badge is too small.
I have since seen a gold round frauenschaft badge that could be what they are wearing, it looks about the right size.

The brooch type badge, seen in black and white could also be the round Reichsarbeitdienst brooch for women too, unless you can clearly see the life rune.

Thanks Matt. I had a feeling that it was a RAD badge.

The Hilfsdienst was a bureau of the N.S. Frauenschaft/Deutsches Frauenwerk. It oversaw members' work in organizations such as the Red Cross, the Winterhilfswerk, the NSV (NS Welfare) and the related Mutter und Kind program, and in the Luftschutz. So it would be entirely possible to see a woman in civilian clothes wearing the Frauenhilfsdienst brooch.

The photo below does clearly show the Frauenhilfsdienst brooch (more clearly up close than in the scan). The caption reads: "Auch der Frauenhilfsdienst hat sich der Betreuung unserer verwundeten Soldaten gewidmet. In einem Marinelazarett bringt eine Helferin den Morgenkaffee."

I asked the same question a year ago trying to find out too - and have found some answers via dealers and otherwise:

Next, we have a Frauenhilfsdienst brooch. The triangular brooches for the Frauenshaft (and Frauenwerk) were colour-coded according to the rank of the holder. Some Maidenshaft ones exist, but they are very rare. I think I might have a photo of one somewhere!

Hello,

here is some material on NS Frauenschaft from me.
Sources:
http://www.auction-service.com/auktions ... 813012.jpg
http://www.auction-service.com/auktions ... 817989.jpg

The text of the Frauenschaft song goes like this:

2. Frierende wieder kleiden, soll unser Streben sein.
3. Glauben und edle Tugend, was sie zusammenschweißt.

The ladies seem to be dressed in a kind of uniform. Did a specific Frauenschaft uniform exist?

Best regards
Torsten

Good topic. Here's a DRK nurse's ID book which clearly shows the broach...
Best,
Tony

I've added some more photos showing the earlier uniform, of black skirt, white blouse and on occasion a black male tie. This uniform changed between 1935-1936 for the full suit, briefly touched upon in the Osprey book. Also added a photo of one of their many activities.

The NS Frauenshaft did a lot of community work and worked closely with the RADwJ and the BDM. Its also an interesting area to recreate for the older lady who may feel too old for the helferin uniforms at events.

Here is a membership form with brooch from the Deutsches Frauenwerk as given to the new member. Also a link to an archive held swearing-in form:
http://www.dhm.de/lemo/objekte/pict/99001529/index.jpg
The first picture is a close-up of the brooch as worn on the ties by the ladies in the above photo. These pins came in three sizes. If you wish to start collecting these pins be warned that they often come with chipped enamel on the bottom point.
Lili Otto, one of the regional Gau leaders of the NS Frauenshaft wrote in 1933 in 'Frauenwarte' magazine about their flag and brooch:
Our Frauenschaft flag carries the same colors as the Swastika flag, with our flag black stands out, solemn and worthy. On top shine forth the Christian cross in the color of purity, constantly warning us: 'You women and mothers, be real Christians! Protect Christianity in your family, rear your children to love the savior!
