Unusual Schwestern Schaft badge

#2

Post by Derek Hicks » 09 Mar 2007, 15:43

Hi. I'm shooting in the dark here! I've had in my collection a rather interesting badge which I would like to learn more about and even more optimistically who it originally belonged to!! The badge itself has round it "Ehrenzeichen der Schwestern Schaft de Reichshauptstadt" which I believe is a Honour Badge of National Headquarters Sisters Union. The reverse has "C2068". I'll send down a scan of badge if required.

Phil,

Fantastic information, as usual! Thank you very much!

Derek: Though I can't see the badge very clearly in the scan, despite the life rune, I'd suspect, from the "Schwestern Schaft," that it has more to do with the DRK or the Freieschwesternschaft, the German nursing corps, than with the Frauenschaft. I'm not that familiar with nursing insignia, but from the style of it, it may be pre-WWII(?). You may want to post it in the Awards section. In any case, I'd be interested in what you find out about it.

Best,
~Vikki

I showed the badge via an email link to a German collector and he thinks it may be a badge (wartime) of the 'Sisterhood of the German Capital' (Berlin), a womans group who helped other women and children who were bombed out. But he could be wrong. No one else I know has seen this badge before and have drawn a blank. Perhaps emailing it to the Berlin Museum might get answers? My curiosity has certainly been piqued :)

Many thanks for that information and appreciate all your efforts in identifying this badge. As luck would have it I have now seen this particular badge mentioned in "Heering - Husken Katalog der Abzeichen deutscher Organisationen 1871-1945" page 89. It may seem incredible but the picture of badge shown appears to be the one which is now in my collection! Once again thanks everyone for their endeavours.

So, Derek, how does that publication identify it? Does the author give any information of the function and date of the organization it belonged to?

Best,
~Vikki

Hmm! Hi Vikki. Unfortunately there isn't any further information other than it is listed in the book mentioned as "Schwesternschaft der Reichshaupstadt" but the value surprised me being value as Deutschmarks750. It would be great to know who it originally belonged to being stamped on the reverse (C2068)!
