Females in Einsatzgruppe A

#1

Post by Mr Holmes » 04 Apr 2007, 07:10

Was 'flicking' through Mr Wendel's Axis History Factbook today and came upon this information concerning Einsatzgruppe A's formation:
Einsatzgruppe A was made up as follows Oct 1941:

Administration 18
Auxiliary Police 87
Females 13
Gestapo 89
Interpreters 51
Kriminalpolizei 41
Motorcyclists 172
Ordnungspolizei 133
Radio operators 8
Sicherheitsdienst 35
Teletype operators 3
Waffen-SS 340
http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=3688 (emphasis added)

Does anyone know what role they had in such a formation? Clerical? Intelligence gathering?

Thanks in advance.

bah! Change of avatar in 2 hours :-D

But seriously, if somone knows what their role was (if it was indeed tasks that normal soldiers should be able to do on their own, then it would leave me very surprised - re the ironing) I would be most grateful to find out.

Cheers

According to MacLean's "the Field men", your number of female "auxillaries is the same.
He does not go into their duties.

He also states that the Group HQ had 7 Auxilaries, sonderkommando 1a had one, einsatzkommando2 had four and eimsatzkommando3 had one.

For an idea of those duties, see the excellent primary documentation shown by Phil Nix here:
