Silly post card joke

Post by Ingrid » 06 May 2007 12:54

(as told to me by my mother)

A german girl sends a postcard home from her assignment as Erntehelfer (harvest worker)
It reads:

BDM
WHW
NSV

These abbreviations are, of course :

Bund Deutscher Maedchen
Winterhilfswerk
Nationalsozialistischer Verein

but here, and that's the punchline, they stand for:

Bin deutsche Mutter (I am a german mother)
wie Hitler will (as Hiter wants)
nun suche Vater ( now I'm looking for the father)

Actually, BDM stands for Bund Deutscher Mädel, and NSV stands for N.S. Volkswohlfahrt, N.S. People's Welfare.

But I did think it was funny! Thank your mother for it!

Thanks Vikki,
It's interesting though, all the adults I grew up with called it "Bund deutscher Mädchen"
that was in Vienna, and apparently "Mädel" sounded too german.
