DRK and Postwar Document Grouping

Post by Vikki » 30 Jul 2007 04:11

I bought this grouping from Billb several years ago—so long ago that Billb’s original scans are no longer in the “For Sale” section on the Forum. This set is fascinating to me, because there are so many documents tracing one woman’s activities in the DRK and life after the war. I haven’t posted all of the postwar documents, in keeping to the subject here.

Notice the BDM pin on her dress in the ID photo, and on her apron in the portrait.

The first document below is a Personal-Ausweis issued to her in 1940. It authorizes her to wear the Red Cross armband, and notes her protection as such under the Geneva Convention. It bears the facsimile signature of Keitel, as head of the OKW.

The second document is a leave pass. As it’s dated 21 December 42, Gertrüd must have known ahead of time that she wasn’t going to make it home for the Christmas Holidays that year—but at least she did get to go home on the 29th, through 3 January 43.

The third is a notification of reassignment of duty station in 1944.

In April 1944, she was awarded the Medaille für Deutsche Volkspflege (Medal for German Social Welfare):

And her 1947 declaration, and confirmation by a local official, that she had not been a member of the NSDAP:

It is always amazing to see these complete sets like this! Collections of single documents are neat, but when you can follow some indiviual through the whole war--and beyond-- is really something. I must say this one is one of the more complete sets I have seen. A pleasure to view!
