All these family/ youth pictures are found in the recent french translation by Gérard Leroy of Hanns Heinz Ewers' book on Wessel.

The same book also contains some pictures of Werner's funeral, which was for some reason also had a ceremonial party procession.

Haha, I was looking to add his sister's book in my collection for AGES!!!! :D It's impossible to find it anywhere, at least within a decent price range. :x

Apart from his Die Fahne hoch, does anyone know if Horst wrote anything else - Was he really a poet?

Does Ingeborg mention anything about Horst's "supposed" literary habits in her book? (I can't read the pdf)

Thank you very much for the information ! And I'm quite interested by Ewer's book ; I might buy it one day, though.

Horst wrote two other poems : We Wear On Our Brown Uniform and the Edelweiss Song. The two poems/songs can be found in the book "Horst Wessel : Leben und Sterben."

Jänicke is a relatively common name, but a bit of Googling throws up one Erna Jänicke born 1911 (which would fit) who married Richard Schildhauer (date unknown) with whom she had 3 children. Died 1956:

Thank you. I tried that and found an obit for a woman in Nebraska...

Does anyone have information about her life after the murder of Wessel? I'm curious if the Nazis helped her at all.

Well, maybe she emigrated to America, who knows? Seems like a good idea. The Nazis, I imagine, regarded Jänicke as an embarrassment; with her immoral past she didn't fit in the Nazi Pantheon of Heroes, not even in a supporting role. Any mention of Jänicke would also bring up the fact that the man who shot Wessel, Albrecht Höhler, was her former pimp, which might occasion some doubt about the purely political nature of the murder.
Wessel's mother willingly posed as Mater Dolorosa during the Nazi era, but after 1945 she couldn't quite remember ever having had a son by the name of Horst, apparently.
Interesting article in Der Spiegel:

Further to post #19 by Wesselrin here are the two poems mentioned, plus a couple of early images of HW ('Leben und Sterben').
