Hallo,
Black Night, thank you for posting the pictures and the newspaper clipping. They are great.
Moulded, I believe the Frau Gruhn referred to in the captions is the bride-to-be. The captions seem to incorporate the modern German usage of Frau for single women beyond their teenage years and is akin to the English language "Ms."
Best Regards,
Durand

Hallo,
It is sometimes difficult to detect the hair color in the old black and white photos, but the difference between the photos Moulded provided and those provided by Black Night is striking. Perhaps the difference is due to being out in the sun more when Moulded's photos were taken?

Those incriminating photos would likely be of use in making this determination. Sorry, could not resist. So Eva wasn't a natural blonde?

More trivia:
--Eva worked at the Reich Egg Marketing Board.
--Wilhelm Keitel's son, Karl Heinz and von Blomberg’s daughter, Dorle, became engaged at the beginning of 1938.The marriage went ahead so Eva in affect became the step mother-in-law of Karl Heinz Keitel.
--von Blomberg 'arranged' for another suitor for the hand of Fräulein Gruhn to be out of the picture. Via Göring a substantial cash inducement was given to this individual who left for South America.
--von Brauchitsch at the same time was experiencing his own love life woes. Hitler provided him funding so he could divorce his wife, and then remarry his girlfriend.

Hallo Moulded,
The pieces of information are not merely "trivia", but rather "interesting trivia."
Do you know the name of the suitor who was bribed to exit the scene? Do you have any additional details as to the amount paid or conditions of the deal -- was the money offered to sweeten some harsh consequences of not accepting? I wonder what became of this fellow.

Durand

Durand,
Irving does not give any details on the rival suitor or the amount paid.He did however work at the Egg Board as well. Göring, the arch rival of von Blomberg, was approached by the latter because he was in charge of the Four-Year Plan and von Blomberg assumed that a job offer overseas, with induction, would be under Göring's portfolio. All fair in love and war!
I think the guy ended up in Argentina, probably not peddling eggs but something of more Teutonic manufactured design. I read elsewhere that a 50,000 Mark figure was also part of the 'package' but I can't remember the source. Himmler probably would have bumped the guy off instead
so really the 'other man' got out of it OK.
