My aunt's photo was made into a poster and was displayed in shop windows throughout Berlin in the 1930s. The poster was a cardboard cut out. The display was a cutout of a girl's head and shoulders with real ribbons through the pig tails.
It appeared in 1933 with ribbons - "Deutsche Mädchen tragen wieder Haarschleifen" and after about 2 years Just "das deutsche Mädchen". Or does anyone have any images of shop windows in Berlin in the 1930s. I was hoping that one of the shop windows may have the poster displayed in it.
Thank you,
George

Re: Deutsche Mädchen tragen wieder Haarschleife
Would you recognise your Aunt as a young girl/woman?
There are thousands of images of BDM ers , many with plaits/pigtails and ribbons , but I have yet to see a cardboard cut out as you describe.

Re: Deutsche Mädchen tragen wieder Haarschleife
Thanks for your reply. Yes I would recognize her. My second thought as to find out the name of hair ribbon manufacturers in Berlin in the 1930s and see if they have images or are still in existence. I have had no luck so far. I also wrote to the major history museums in Berlin. I know the saying in English "German girls wear braids" was popular then.

PS She was about ten years old in the advertisement.
