German War veterans pensions

Post by ignacioosacar » 15 Sep 2017 15:21

Dear Forum,

It has intriged me for many years. Who receive or have received war pensions in the German Armed services ? All servicemen ? Those drafted ? Those invalidated ? Foreigners ?

What is the amount in each case ?

It would be interesting that someone who has such knowledge would share with the forum.

I am curious as well. My father passed away in 1987 but I don't believe that he ever received a German war survivor pension or benefit. He was severely injured during the war, taken prisoner in August 1944 and was returned to Germany in July 1945. He emigrated to Canada in 1953 after getting a degree at Rostock University. Comments are appreciated.

Here is a post from Feldgrau about the subject. I know that in some cases after the war German veterans would keep the Lazarett pages of their Soldbücher for disability/injury claims:

Also something from 1948 from the Allied side briefly covering the topic:

If you Google 'Wehrmacht Pensions' there seems to be a fair few links covering this topic, including the payment of German pensions to Belgian collaborators.
