Naturally, this did not happen. But given the enormous manpower crisis in 1945, you would think that it would at least have occurred to some officials to conscript women into combat roles to fill shortages. Is there any evidence of such proposals being made?

A good question....Under whos jurisdiction would have tried to set it up? NSDAP? SS? League of German Girls?

The nearest I ever came across was female service in either the Luftwaffenhelfer or Volkstrumm

As I recall Bormann made a decision about women being trained for combat in the terminal months of the war. It is mentioned with references in the latter part of Himmler's Diary 1945: A Calender of Events Leading to Suicide - I'll see if I can find my copy.......

Goebbels used his plenipotentiary powers and instructed the SS to give small arms instruction to women. The SS also hung girls and boys who refused to die for Der Fuhrer. For the most part though per Nazi ideology women were to be hausfraus.

Women did serve as AA auxiliaries, telephone operators, secretaries, typists or clerks, nurses and other non combatant roles.
