What happened to the sister of Eva Braun?

Gretl Braun married Fegelein (executed in March 1945 by Hitler's order) and at the end of the war was probably in Berchtesgaden. What was her fate? Did she survive? Any information?

Anton Joachimsthaler writes in his book "The last Days of Hitler. Legend, Evidence and Truth" (2001) (originally published as "Hitler's Ende" by F.A. Herbig, Munich, 1995), the following (endnote 150):

" - Margarete (Gretl) Braun, born 31 August 1915 in Munich. Girls secondary school in Medingen. Clerk in photographer Heinrich Hoffmann's publishing company from 10 April 1931 to 1943. From 1 September 1943 enrolled at Bavarian State school of Photography. On 3 June 1944, at age 28, married Hermann Fegelein in Salzburg, who was liason officer of Waffen-SS to Hitler. At end of war on Obersalsberg and travelled to Garmisch-Partenkrichen with girlfriend of Eva Braun. Now lives in northern Germany" [end quote]

In his book "Hitlers Liste. Ein Dokument persönlicher Beziehungen" (F.A. Herbig, 2003), Joachimsthaler writes that "- on the 5th of May Margarete Fegelein born a daughter [who was named] Eva Barbara Fegelein. At the age of 25 she commited suicide on April 25, 1971 because of an unhappy love affair. On November 15, 1949 Margarete Fegelein moved from Garmisch (Höllentalstr. 49/II) to Munich (Behamstrasse 17). On February 6, 1954 she married the textile distributor Kurt Berlinghoff, who it is possible to trace to Agnes-Bernauer-Str. 60 in Munich-Laim until 1996. Margarete Berlinghoff died on October 10, 1987 at the age of 73 in Steingaden."

Thanks Exkurs, great info!
It's quite strange that she was never (for what I know) interviewed by some historical writers. Afterall she lived almost side by side with Eva and AH at the Obersalzberg...

Some people say before marrying Fegelein, "signora" Gretl Braun had a "promiscuos life" having sexual relations with severe numbers of partners.
Anybody has details of that?

Hermann Fegelein was only Gruppenführer und Generalleutnant der Waffen-SS.
In vain he courted Eva.

A sad epitaph. Thanks for posting the color photos. Gretl looks more like her father Fritz. Eva was the better looking of the two. It's amazing how many books have printed photographs of Gretl and have mistaken these pictures for Eva. They are still doing it too. The lack of simple research is appalling. As for Fegelein having "really loved" Gretl, most accounts say he was in it simply for the opportunity to further his career. I'm really not certain as to the morality level of Gretl, but Fegelein's was definately of a slippery and slimy lower kind. Gretl did idolize her older sister as can be seen by the many photographs in which she tries to copy Eva in dress and expression - this is probably why she is mistaken for Eva so often.
I think she also saw how well Eva had done for herself, even as a mistress, so there was probably some hidden jealousy there. Gretl, as a result, probably sought to secure for herself some small compensation and security by getting on with Fegelein. What I am driving at here is that Gretl was an opportunist as well, and maybe "real love" didn't play any part in either her or Fegelein's machinations. She set her sights on him, (he got pushed towards her), he said OK, they fooled around a bit and then got hitched.

In her book "Er war mein Chef", Hitler's secretary Christa Schröder states that there was a platonic love affair between Eva Braun and Hermann Fegelein, i.e. they were made for each other nad recognized the fact, but there was no carnal contact. Christa takes up several pages of her book to describe what she saw between the two. In her opinion Fegelein married Gretl Braun in order to become "Hitler's common law brother-in-law", i.e. to advance his position.
