Re: Female Auxiliary Photographs
Hi again,
here some Helferinnen pictures that combine the spheres of Heer and Kriegsmarine. Heer signals auxiliaries lined up with bunches of flowers and little presents to welcome submariners that return to their home port.

Well still a bit more,
Top picture:
The same women as in the previous posting. As the white strip on her lower sleeve indicates she's simply a Flugmeldehelferin (plane spotter auxiliary).

A Nachrichtenhelferin-Oberhelferin from the Army according to the sleeve patch.

Re: Female Auxiliary Photographs
Many thanks for your positive feedback, Itzik. It's always nice to know that there is some interest for the things displayed here.
Here's another one. A Heer signals auxiliary and two officers stationed in Wyszkow (Central Poland), about 50 kilometers NE of Warsaw in spring 1941.
Best regards

Hello Sylvie,

Re: Female Auxiliary Photographs
Is it me, or do most of these women seem a might homely? When I think Of German Women, I like to think of this gal, Lotte Koch, not some of the poor specimens we mainly have. I do not mean to be offensive, truly, why so homely?

I don't mean to be offensive either, but I'm surprised that you find "most" of the women pictured on the thread homely. Believe me, I'm no great admirer of female beauty , but I think that many of them are nice-looking, "cute", or--for example, in the case of the photo of the SS-Helferin just above your post--quite attractive. Many of them are a far cry from "poor specimens," in my opinion.
Part of the difference in our perceptions is the comparison you're making. Lotte Koch was a movie star, and the postcard photo of her is obviously a movie studio production, with movie studio makeup, dress, pose, etc. The female Auxiliaries pictured on the thread are simply ordinary women--most of whom had their photos taken without the benefit of professional artistry. Their attractiveness (or lack thereof) is probably in about the same proportion to what you'd find watching women pass by on a busy street today. And always in the eye of the beholder.
Best,
~Vikki
Re: Female Auxiliary Photographs
All very interesting I'm sure, but does no-one else find this trafficking in dead people's family photos rather distasteful? Particularly since we know what happened to many of these women in 1945.
