Photo request - women in the 3rd Reich

#1

Post by BDMhistorian » 14 Dec 2004, 06:12

I hope this is the correct forum to post this in. I am looking for photos of German women in the 3rd Reich, especially in "traditional" dress (Trachten). If anyone has any, would you mind posting them?

Thanks.

This isn't the normal Trachten, but it's an interesting photo. Hitler is shown arriving at the Innsbruck Bahnhof on 4 or 5 April 1938, during the campaign before the vote for Anschluß. He was greeted by the local Tyrolean "honor guard," complete with their female auxiliary on the left. Such keg-carrying female auxiliaries were known as cantinieres or vivandieres in French usage.

This image is from the Hoffmann photo book "Hitler baut Großdeutschland" (Berlin, 1938).

That's exceptionally interesting! I knew of Vivandieres in the American Civil War (the military then was copying anything French), but I never knew that they were in Austria too!
Thanks for posting that really interesting photo and explanation!

@knieptang -

Thanks for the links! I've already been to a lot of the German sites but most of them only have modern pictures, not photos from the 1930s/ 1940s. I'm looking more for the Werktagstracht than the really fancy stuff.

So you are looking for pictures like these two, from the 1930s...?

There are a lot of websites for "Trachten" or "Werktagstrachten", can you specify an area?

Regards / Michael

P.S. It is hard, to help you out, there are hundreds and thousands of historical photos in the net regarding "Alltagstrachten", "Arbeitstrachten" and "Werktagstrachten" from germany and other areas and for ex. austria, without specifying an area, it is nearly impossible to fullfill your needs...

Yeah I did the web searches already. It's hard to find anything because there doesn't seem to be a site specific for 1930s Werktrachten. I was hoping some of the people here who collect images of that period and photographs may have some showing girls or women in Trachten style clothing.

I do not understand your search, what are you looking for, the origin "Trachten" pictures of the time, just girls (?), or any related picture concerning "Trachten / NSDAP-Officials...?

Help me out...

Michael

btw. If your search is just "girls", leave me alone, if your search is serious BDM and "Trachten", we can handle that, otherwise, NOT!

Like I explained, I am looking for photos from the 1930s and 1940s that show women in their everyday "working" Trachten (=Werktagstrachten), NOT the really fancy Trachten outfits they would wear for sunday curch of holidays (= NOT Festtracht).

The first one you posted as Festtracht. That's not what I'm looking for. The second two you posted of the Werktagstrachten is what I am looking for, but they *must* be dated from the Third Reich Era.

And no, I am not looking for "girls" photos, and not for BDM photos. I have plenty of the latter (a whole website full) and I don't care too much about photos of girls since I am one.
