Vikki/BDM-

No worries on the photo, it was one I had not seen before, will have to go back and look at the page again. Sheesh, the <work> you ladies get me to do around here,

I thought it interesting as it was not a 'lady in men's clothing/sweetheart shot'. Will go and look for more info on that, but I do believe BDM is right, from what I can remember, I vaguely recall her of being under 'service' age.

One might note for the readers of that article Drew posted, that when the author writes DJM, he means the Jungmaedel (the section of the BDM for girls ages 10 through 14). Why in the world he is abbreviating them DJM instead of the proper JM is anyone's guess.

Torsten, somehow I don't think it was the hat that was so interesting. To anyone except perhaps me...

Hello,

time to restart this thread with a new round of 3rd Reich masquerade. As it seems it wasn't only the ladies who thought changing clothes would be fun. These three apparently had a great time plundering each other's wardrobe while Hermann Göring, himself a well-known uniform addict, is presiding as patron saint from the wall over their little carnival .

My grandfather shot and killed a German soldier. When the solder fell to the ground, the hair fell out from under the helmet.

He then realized that he had just killed a woman. There are many things about that war that traumatized him, and he suffered his entire life from PTSD, but I believe that one instance is something he had the hardest time dealing with. A part of him died there as well. :(

Hello Nighted,

I feel sorry for your grandfather, having borne that guilt all that time. But different combat veterans had very different reactions to a similar situation. See, for example, the attitude of one American WWII veteran in a similar situation, as told to me: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 86#p713486

Best,
