Greetings All,

Anyone know where the Don Front HQ was located in early Feb 1943, after the German 6th army surrendered? A map or town location would be great.

Thanks for any help

Dann

Zavarykin aka Zavarygino (on modern maps). See, for example:

Yes the map shows Don Front HQ was to the north on Dec 31 42, but on Jan 1 43, the Don and Stalingrad Fronts were merged to form the larger Don Front under the control of General Rokossovsky. At this point I think he moved his HQ to a new location...and in January 43 I thought it was on the east side of the Volga somewhere...maybe the small town of Yamy on the Volga, South East from Krasnaya Sloboda, but I don't know?

"At noon, Field-Marshal Paulus was driven off in a car to Shumiloff's HQ and thence to Zavarykin, Don Front command center, where Voronov and Rokossovskii waited to interrogate him."

It looks like I was confused about the Don Front HQ movements. Zavarykin and (Zavarygino) it is!

Thanks for correcting me Art, great info.
