Although the mantlets on Panther and M4 Sherman tanks were analyzed to death by the fans, people seem to think that there is not much going on with those of the soviet tanks. But if we examine these drawings, we quickly notice that the right cheek of the external turret face casting (52mm thick) is almost completely overlapping with the actual turret face(52mm too) making this part much tougher to perforate than we previously thought.
