The one with curly hair is Major-General Pavel Grigorevich Ponedelin, CO of the 12th Army. His college is Major-General Nikolai Kuzmich Kirillov, CO of the 13th Rifle Corps. Both were taken prisoner as a result of the Battle of Uman. Both of them were sentenced to death in 1950 and executed.

Thanks - we continue with "Facebook" questions - name the young officer with binoculars.
As a back-up question, you may ID the submachine gun carried by other soldier on the photo.

If it's a Soviet SMG, then it's most likely some kind of variant of Sudaev PPS-43 used by tank crews?

Obviously, he became well-known after WW2 (his face seems familiar to me, but I still cannot remember where I've seen him). The Edge wrote:name the young officer with binoculars.

On the second thought, drop the first part of the question - person ID turned to be unconfirmed.AVV wrote:Obviously, he became well-known after WW2 (his face seems familiar to me, but I still cannot remember where I've seen him).
So, concentrate on SMG - one famous name is designer.

Note that Sudaev SMGs were produced in besieged Leningrad (not available for most of Soviet army until the mid-1944).
Since back end of SMG is not visible on the photo, here it is on drawing:

Well, another guess. Is it Kalashnikov's experimental SMG from 1942?
