Hello!

Judging by the fact that he had the same rank in both photos, he did not make a good military career. :?

Best regards, Aleks

I'm sorry, but at the moment these two are the only ones I could find of him.

He served at both Spanish Civil War and Winter War.
After that he served as a Division Commander, "deputy Army Corps Commander" and "Front assistant Commander"

His name has been misspelled in various sources. I had this guy at hand yesterday, but no picture to link the biography with it :D . Well, thanks to your last hint I dear to say that the man in the picture is Aksel Anttila, Major-General.

If you will be so kind, please send the picture to this quite fine database of WW2 generals if you know the owner of it.

He was also a member of so-called Terijoki Government

Good question!

Well done, correct answer!

Yes, I think his original name might have been Akseli Anttila, which then at USSR was shortened to Aksel Anttila.
Some sources also mention hiss surname as Antila, which I think is not quite correct.
Here some related discussion: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... it#p563909

Yes, Steen is a ex-moderator from here, I'll pass your suggestion to him.

Yes, that's the source of the photos of the puppet government members.
I also used the following pages as sources of the photos:

Who's the man in the picture taken in 1940? He was a captain then. In 1958 he was promoted to the rank of major-general for his service. Took part in three wars and one military expedition.

I'll give you a hint for a weekend. Since Soviet Union officially never participated in the Spanish Civil War, this man used a false name - Juan Pedro Valensiano - while taking active part of combat on the side of the Republican Forces.

Ivan Yevgrafovich Fedorov?
Good guess! But sorry, no. Not him. The man in the picture was a bomber pilot in Spanish Civil War.

"The IL-4 was the first Russian bomber to attack Berlin on August 8, 1941."
I guess, that our pilot was a member of this attack.
His name? No idea. :?

Hi Juha Pekka!

I think you're referring to the Siberian Estonian Endel Puusepp. No, not him either. He's passed away. The “living legend” lives in Moscow today (according to my sources) and is one of the few still living former Soviet Citizens who participated in the Spanish Civil War as combatants.

Here's a more recent picture:
